Our top pick: Backyard Discovery Tanglewood Cedar Swing Set.
How each alternative compares
Backyard Discovery Belmont Cedar Swing Set
The Belmont Cedar Swing Set replaces the Tanglewood’s snack bar with a sandbox, shifting the focus from social play to tactile exploration. It stands taller at 113 inches but is narrower at 87 inches wide. You gain a raised deck and varied climbing features, but you lose the covered counter and bench seating. This model suits families who want a multi-zone wooden playset that fits into larger yards but prefer sandbox play over a café-style setup. The green color option also offers a different aesthetic than the Tanglewood’s brown finish.
Backyard Discovery Woodland Cedar Swing Set
The Woodland Cedar Swing Set is significantly larger, measuring 200 inches wide and 136 inches high, compared to the Tanglewood’s 142 by 106 inches. It weighs 478 pounds, making it a substantial structure for large yards. Like the Tanglewood, it includes a snack bar and climbing wall, but the increased footprint allows for more extensive cedar play features. This option is best for buyers who need a massive, feature-rich playset and have ample space. You get more climbing and swinging real estate, but the structure requires a much larger yard to accommodate its extra dimensions.
Backyard Discovery Mount McKinley Cedar Swing Set
The Mount McKinley Cedar Swing Set offers a robust alternative with a light brown finish and a weight of 308 pounds. It measures 150 inches wide and 119 inches high, providing a slightly different profile than the Tanglewood. This set emphasizes climbing and swinging features, making it suitable for families who value active play zones. It lacks the specific snack bar and wave slide combination of the Tanglewood, focusing instead on a comprehensive play area with multiple activity zones. If you prefer a natural material look with a lighter stain and substantial climbing elements, this is a strong contender.
Backyard Discovery Canyon Creek Cedar Playset
The Canyon Creek Cedar Playset features a clubhouse and climbing wall, similar to the Tanglewood’s multi-zone approach, but with a green slide accent. It measures 183 inches wide and 119 inches high, offering a wider footprint. This set is ideal for spacious yards seeking durable cedar construction without the snack bar. You get a comprehensive play experience focused on climbing and imaginative play in the clubhouse. The weight is 387 pounds, indicating a sturdy build. Choose this if you want a cedar playset with a climbing wall and clubhouse but do not need the specific snack bar and bench seating of the Tanglewood.
Sportspower Cedar Wooden Playset with Saucer Swing
The Sportspower Cedar Wooden Playset is a compact option, measuring 107 inches wide and 98 inches high, designed for smaller backyards. It features a saucer swing, which differs from the Tanglewood’s belt swings and trapeze. This set prioritizes slide durability and shared swinging over expansive play structures. It is practical for younger children in moderate-sized yards. You give up the raised clubhouse, snack bar, and extensive climbing features of the Tanglewood. However, you gain a more manageable footprint and a unique saucer swing experience. This is the best choice if space is limited and you want a focused, durable cedar playset.
Backyard Discovery Sterling Point Cedar Swing Set
The Sterling Point Cedar Swing Set is a substantial structure, measuring 246 inches wide and 130 inches high, making it much larger than the Tanglewood. It weighs 606 pounds, indicating a heavy-duty build for spacious yards. This set includes a raised clubhouse and diverse climbing features, similar to the Tanglewood but on a grander scale. You get more play area and climbing options, but the sheer size requires a very large yard. The green slide accent adds a visual difference. Choose this if you want a premium, expansive cedar playset with a clubhouse and do not have space constraints.
