Comparing alternatives to Elkhorn
Backyard Discovery Canyon Creek Cedar Playset
The Backyard Discovery Canyon Creek Cedar Playset shifts from pressure-treated pine to cedar, which naturally resists rot and insects. It is slightly wider at 183 inches and longer at 188 inches, offering more ground coverage than the 15-foot Elkhorn. The structure is lighter at 387 pounds, making assembly potentially easier. It retains the climbing wall and slide features you expect, but uses a green slide instead of the wave style. This cedar build suits those who prefer natural wood aesthetics without the maintenance of standard pine. If you need a larger footprint for multiple children, this expanded size provides more room for simultaneous play.
Step2 Adventure Lodge Double-Wall Poly Swing Set
The Step2 Adventure Lodge swaps wood for double-wall polyethylene plastic, eliminating the need for staining or sealing. It is significantly shorter at 87 inches tall, which may appeal to parents of younger children who prefer a lower profile. The footprint is more compact, measuring 166 inches by 118 inches, fitting better in smaller yards. While it lacks the 250-pound swing capacity of the Elkhorn, the plastic construction offers high durability against weather and pests. You trade the traditional wooden look for a low-maintenance solution that requires only occasional cleaning. This option is best if you want a durable, weather-resistant set that does not require seasonal upkeep.
Lifetime Steel Monkey Bar Adventure Swing Set
The Lifetime Steel Monkey Bar Adventure Swing Set replaces wood with powder-coated steel, providing a completely different maintenance profile. It is the longest set on this list at 211 inches, offering extensive length for monkey bars and movement. The height is moderate at 93 inches, and it weighs 353 pounds. Unlike the wooden Elkhorn, this steel frame resists rot and insects entirely. It lacks a slide in its standard configuration, focusing instead on climbing and swinging activities. The earthtone color blends with outdoor environments. If you want a structure that never needs painting or sealing and offers maximum length for active play, this steel alternative is a practical choice.
Backyard Discovery Montpelier Cedar Swing Set
The Backyard Discovery Montpelier Cedar Swing Set uses cedar wood like the Canyon Creek but offers a larger footprint. It measures 186 inches wide and 193 inches long, providing more space than the 15-foot Elkhorn. The height is 112 inches, slightly lower than the Elkhorn’s 103 inches. At 336 pounds, it is lighter than the wooden Elkhorn. This set features multiple play zones, including a trapeze bar and climbing features. The natural cedar construction offers durability and aesthetic appeal. It is ideal for families with large yards who want a spacious, multi-level play center. If you prioritize natural materials and ample room for diverse activities, this cedar set provides a robust alternative.
Swing-N-Slide Cedar Brook Swing Set
The Swing-N-Slide Cedar Brook Swing Set also uses cedar, offering a similar natural material to the Backyard Discovery options. It is notably longer at 253 inches, providing extensive space for monkey bars and movement. The width is narrower at 141 inches, and the height matches the Elkhorn at 123 inches. It lacks a slide in its core structure, focusing on swinging and climbing. The 315-pound swing beam capacity exceeds the Elkhorn’s 250-pound limit, supporting heavier users. This set is best for those who want a residential wooden feel with extra length for active play. If you prefer cedar durability and a longer footprint for monkey bars, this model is a strong contender.
Gorilla Playsets Playmaker Dual Slide Swing Set
The Gorilla Playsets Playmaker Dual Slide Swing Set features a gray cedar finish and includes two slides, unlike the single wave slide on the Elkhorn. It is 174 inches wide and 142 inches long, with a height of 118 inches. The dual-slide design offers more variety for children who prefer sliding. The cedar construction provides natural resistance to rot and insects. This set is designed for families who want comprehensive play options, including shade structures and multiple activity zones. If you value variety in play features and want a modern cedar look with dual slides, this alternative offers a distinct advantage over the single-slide Elkhorn model.
