Looking Beyond the SunSwell Fir Wood Swing Set? 6 Alternatives Worth a Look

If you are considering sunswell fir wood swing set alternatives, you might want to look at other options that offer different specifications. The original SunSwell set features a massive footprint measuring 240 inches wide and 168 inches long. It includes a seven-foot wave slide and supports up to 13 children. This high-capacity design is ideal for large yards and big families who need extensive play space. The pre-stained fir wood construction also provides a sturdy foundation for multiple swings and climbing features.
However, you might prefer a different material, size, or layout. Some buyers seek cedar wood for its natural rot resistance or a more compact structure for smaller yards. The alternatives listed here were chosen because their specs overlap with the original in key areas like overall dimensions and play features. You can compare options ranging from dual-tower wooden sets to compact plastic play centers. This guide helps you evaluate each model based on height, width, length, and material to find the best fit for your specific backyard constraints and play needs.

Comparing the top alternatives
Albott 14' x 24' Double Tower Wooden Swing Set
The Albott set expands your footprint significantly, measuring 287 inches wide and 117 inches tall. It weighs 556 pounds, offering a heavier, more stable structure than the SunSwell model. This option includes dual slides and climbing walls, providing more varied play activities than the single wave slide found on the SunSwell. You get a walnut brown finish instead of green. If you need extra width and multiple sliding options, this larger wooden structure is a strong upgrade. It sacrifices the pre-stained convenience for a more substantial, heavy-duty build that requires more yard space.
Backyard Discovery Canyon Creek Cedar Swing Set
This Backyard Discovery model shifts the material from fir wood to cedar, which offers natural rot resistance. It stands 119 inches tall and measures 205 inches wide, making it slightly narrower and taller than the SunSwell. Weighing 493 pounds, it is lighter than the Albott but heavier than the SunSwell. The white finish provides a distinct look compared to the green SunSwell. It focuses on multi-level play and climbing features rather than maximizing swing count. If you prefer cedar construction and a vertical play experience, this set offers a different structural approach while maintaining a substantial size for large yards.
Backyard Discovery Sterling Point Cedar Swing Set
The Sterling Point Cedar Swing Set is the tallest option here at 130 inches high, with a width of 246 inches. It weighs 606 pounds, making it the heaviest set on this list. Constructed from cedar, it offers natural durability similar to the Backyard Discovery Canyon Creek but with a larger footprint. The green slide matches the SunSwell color scheme. This set is designed for families who want a comprehensive play center with elevated structures. It gives up the compact nature of smaller sets for a robust, high-capacity wooden frame that requires ample yard space for safe operation and assembly.
Gorilla Playsets Outing Wood Swing Set with Monkey Bars
The Gorilla Outing Wood Swing Set is designed for smaller yards, measuring only 186 inches long and 180 inches wide. It weighs just 357 pounds, making it much lighter and easier to manage than the massive SunSwell. The amber color provides a natural wood look. With a 4-foot deck, it offers less vertical height than the SunSwell but fits better in confined spaces. This set prioritizes space efficiency over maximum capacity. If your yard is limited or you prefer a less imposing structure, this compact wooden option provides essential play features without the overwhelming footprint of larger commercial-style sets.
Backyard Discovery Cedar Cove Dual-Slide Swing Set
The Cedar Cove Swing Set offers extensive play features in a light brown cedar frame. It measures 183 inches wide and 220 inches long, with a height of 119 inches. Weighing 492 pounds, it is comparable in weight to the Canyon Creek. This set focuses on multiple climbing and sliding options, providing a different activity mix than the SunSwell's single slide. The cedar material offers natural weather resistance. It is best for large yards where you want extensive features without the extreme width of the Albott. It gives up the pre-stained convenience for a traditional cedar finish that may require maintenance over time.
Step2 Naturally Playful Adventure Lodge with Glider
The Step2 Naturally Playful Adventure Lodge is a plastic play center, differing significantly from the wooden sets listed. It measures 216 inches wide and 118 inches long, with a height of only 87 inches. Weighing just 6.61 pounds, it is extremely lightweight compared to the heavy wooden alternatives. The multicolor jungle theme appeals to younger children. This set is ideal for small yards where wood sets are too bulky. It offers low-maintenance durability for kids aged 3 to 8 years. You sacrifice the natural wood look and heavy-duty construction for a colorful, easy-to-clean plastic structure that is simple to install and move if needed.
