Hurtle Wooden Sandbox Adjustable Hood Alternatives: 4 Similar Picks Compared

How each alternative compares

Best Choice Products 47-Inch Cedar Sandbox with Benches

The Best Choice Products 47-inch Cedar Sandbox swaps the adjustable hood for fixed benches and a dual-purpose cover. Its 47x47-inch footprint matches the Hurtle’s width but adds integrated drainage, which the Hurtle does not specify. You get heavier-duty seating here, with benches built into the frame rather than a single foldable seat. The weight capacity is not listed, but the robust construction suggests durability for multiple users. If you prefer permanent seating over a convertible canopy, this model offers a more stable base. It lacks the sun-shade flexibility of the Hurtle, so you lose the ability to lower the cover for sand protection. This pick suits buyers who value drainage and fixed seating above all.

Badger Basket 46.5" Cedar Sandbox with Benches

The Badger Basket 46.5-inch Cedar Sandbox is noticeably shallower than the Hurtle, with a depth of only 9.5 inches compared to the Hurtle’s implied deeper play area. It includes integrated benches on all sides, whereas the Hurtle features just one foldable seat. The dimensions are 46.5 x 46.5 inches, slightly smaller than the Hurtle’s 47.2 x 45.6-inch surface. This compact size makes it ideal for small yards where space is tight. You give up the adjustable UV-resistant hood for a simpler cover system. The weight is 42.9 pounds, making it heavier than the Agitree but comparable to other cedar units. If you need a footprint that fits tighter spaces and do not require deep sand for complex play, this budget-friendly option is a practical choice.

Agitree 47-Inch Cedar Sandbox with Bench Seats

The Agitree 47-inch Cedar Sandbox offers a 7.5-inch depth, which is shallower than typical deep-play sandboxes. It includes bench seats and storage compartments, providing organization that the Hurtle does not mention. The 47x47-inch surface area is similar to the Hurtle, but the lack of an adjustable hood means less flexibility for sun protection. You get integrated storage for toys, which helps keep the play area tidy. The weight is 32 pounds, making it lighter and easier to move than the Hurtle or Badger Basket models. This unit is best for parents who want convenient storage and seating without the complexity of an adjustable canopy. If you prioritize toy organization and fixed seating over deep sand capacity, the Agitree is a suitable alternative.

ZAVEROX 62.25 in Cedar Pirate Ship Sandbox

The ZAVEROX 62.25-inch Cedar Pirate Ship Sandbox is a themed unit with a unique shape, differing significantly from the Hurtle’s rectangular design. It measures 62.25 x 30.75 inches, offering a longer but narrower play area. Integrated benches and storage are included, similar to the Agitree but with a pirate ship aesthetic. The depth is 18 inches, which is deeper than the Agitree and Badger Basket, providing more sand capacity. You trade the adjustable UV hood for a themed structure that encourages imaginative play. The dark gray color contrasts with the Hurtle’s red finish. This pick is ideal for children who enjoy role-play and unique designs. If you want a statement piece that combines seating, storage, and deep sand, the ZAVEROX offers a distinct experience compared to the standard Hurtle model.
