If you are looking for best choice products sandbox canopy alternatives, this guide compares 6 similar picks. The original Best Choice Products 52x45 Sandbox with Bench offers an extra-large design with a shaded canopy, water features, and a front bench. It suits families who want a comprehensive, stationary play station for multiple children. However, you might prefer a different size, material, or brand. Some buyers need a more compact unit for smaller yards, while others prioritize natural cedar wood over hemlock. Others may want a themed design or a different canopy mechanism.

This comparison helps you find a sandbox that fits your yard dimensions and play requirements. Review the specs to see which features matter most for your family.
How alternatives compare to BCP
Pirate Ship Solid Wood Sandbox with Bench
The Pirate Ship Sandbox trades the BCP’s water play features for a themed design. It lacks a canopy, so you get no sun shade. It keeps the built-in bench seating, which matches the original’s social layout. The weight is lighter at 34.2 pounds, making it easier to move. You give up the sink and water tank found in the Best Choice model. This pick suits kids who prefer immersive role play over sensory water activities. It is a solid choice if you want a stationary, themed pit with seating but do not need the extra utility of a water table or cover.
Best Choice Products 47-Inch Cedar Sandbox with Benches
This 47-inch cedar option is smaller than the BCP’s 52x45 footprint. It uses cedar instead of hemlock wood. It includes benches but lacks a canopy, so you have no overhead shade. The digging depth is shallow at 8.5 inches, compared to the deeper pit of the original. It is lighter at 32.5 pounds. You sacrifice the water features and the large activity wall. This model fits smaller yards where you prioritize integrated seating and weather protection over a comprehensive play station. It is a practical budget choice for families who want simple sand play with a place to sit nearby.
Mederra 46.5" Cedar Sandbox with Canopy
The Mederra sandbox is a compact square design at 46.5 inches. It includes a canopy, which the original also has, but the coverage area is smaller. It features built-in benches for seating. The weight is not listed, but the smaller size suggests easier handling. You give up the water tank and sink found in the Best Choice model. The digging space is limited by the square shape. This pick suits parents who want to sit nearby while their children play under shade. It is ideal for small yards where you need a covered, seated sandbox without the bulk of a large rectangular unit.
Agitree 47" Wooden Sandbox with Canopy
The Agitree sandbox offers a rotating canopy, providing adjustable shade unlike the fixed cover on the BCP model. It uses fir wood instead of hemlock. It includes benches for seating. The weight is 47 pounds, making it heavier and less portable than the original. You lose the integrated water features and sink. The digging depth is not specified, but the square shape offers different play dynamics. This model suits families who prioritize adjustable sun protection and organized storage over the multi-activity water table. It is a good alternative if you want a shaded, seated sandbox with better shade control.
SoliWood 85-Inch Octagon Wooden Sandbox with 4 Benches
The SoliWood octagon sandbox is significantly larger at 85 inches long. It includes four benches, offering more seating than the single bench on the BCP model. It lacks a canopy, so you have no sun shade. The weight is lighter at 31 pounds, despite the size. You give up the water features and the activity wall entirely. This pick suits large groups or siblings who need ample room and seating. It is ideal for backyards where you want a durable, high-capacity pit without the need for storage or water play. It is a sturdy option for social digging.
Badger Basket 46.5" Cedar Sandbox with Benches
The Badger Basket sandbox is a mid-sized square design at 46.5 inches. It uses cedar wood, differing from the BCP’s hemlock. It includes benches and a folding cover, which provides protection but not shade like a canopy. The height is 9.5 inches, offering shallow digging depth. The weight is 42.9 pounds. You sacrifice the water features and the large activity wall. This model fits families who want integrated seating and a lid for sand protection. It is a practical choice for those who prefer a simple, square sandbox with a cover rather than a complex play station with water elements.
