6 Best Alternatives to the Badger Basket Cedar Sandbox Lid & (2026)

How each alternative compares

Best Choice Products 47-Inch Cedar Sandbox with Benches

The Best Choice Products model measures 47 by 47 inches, offering a slightly larger footprint than the 46.5-inch Badger Basket square. It weighs 32.5 pounds, making it lighter and easier to move than the 42.9-pound Badger Basket unit. This product features a split cover design rather than folding benches that become the lid. The benches here are fixed seating structures, which may offer more stability for adult supervision than the convertible Badger Basket benches. You get similar cedar construction but with a brown finish instead of natural wood. Choose this if you prioritize sturdy, stationary seating for watching play over the space-saving lid conversion feature.

ZAVEROX 62.25 in Cedar Pirate Ship Sandbox

The ZAVEROX Pirate Ship Sandbox differs significantly with its themed pirate ship shape and dark gray color. It measures 62.25 by 30.75 inches, providing a longer but narrower play area compared to the Badger Basket’s square 46.5-inch base. This unit integrates benches into the ship design, offering seating that is part of the structure rather than a convertible lid. It lacks a traditional folding cover, relying on the ship’s architecture for some protection. This option suits families seeking imaginative play and a distinct aesthetic. It is ideal if you want a focal point in the yard that encourages role-play, rather than a standard utility sandbox with a simple lid.

Mederra 46.5" Cedar Sandbox with Canopy

The Mederra sandbox introduces a retractable nylon canopy, replacing the Badger Basket’s folding bench lid with adjustable shade. It measures 46 by 46 inches, nearly identical in footprint to the 46.5-inch Badger Basket model. The height reaches 46 inches due to the canopy structure, significantly taller than the 9.5-inch Badger Basket pit. This unit includes benches for seating but does not convert them into a sand cover. You gain weather protection and sun shade but lose the simple, low-profile lid mechanism. Select this if shaded play is a priority for you and your children, and you prefer a permanent shade structure over a removable wooden cover.

Agitree 47" Wooden Sandbox with Canopy

The Agitree sandbox measures 47 by 47 inches, slightly wider than the Badger Basket’s 46.5-inch square. It weighs 47 pounds, making it heavier than the 42.9-pound Badger Basket unit. This model features a vibrant orange color and includes a canopy for shade, unlike the natural wood Badger Basket without shade. It includes benches for seating but does not convert them into a lid. The Agitree unit is designed for ages 3 to 8 years. Choose this if you want a colorful, shaded play area with built-in seating. It sacrifices the natural cedar look and the convertible lid feature for added sun protection and a more playful aesthetic.

SoliWood 85-Inch Octagon Wooden Sandbox with 4 Benches

The SoliWood Octagon Sandbox is much larger, measuring 85 by 78 inches, compared to the Badger Basket’s 46.5-inch square. It weighs 31 pounds, making it lighter than the Badger Basket despite its size. This unit features four benches for ample seating, accommodating larger groups. It does not have a folding lid or canopy, leaving the sand exposed. The octagon shape and gold brown finish offer a different visual style. This option is best for spacious yards where you need capacity for multiple children. It is ideal if you prioritize group seating and a large play area over the compact, covered design of the Badger Basket.

Best Choice Products 52x45 Sandbox with Bench

The Best Choice Products 52-inch model measures 52 by 45 inches, offering a rectangular footprint different from the Badger Basket’s square base. It weighs 41 pounds, slightly lighter than the 42.9-pound Badger Basket. This unit includes a canopy and benches, providing shade and seating. It lacks a folding lid, relying on the canopy for weather protection. The blue color and larger size make it suitable for bigger yards. This option is ideal for families who want integrated water play features and shade. It sacrifices the compact, convertible lid design for a more robust structure with permanent shade and additional play space.
